Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) Total Antibody
Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is an incomplete RNA virus that requires the helper function of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) envelope proteins (HBSAg) to replicate. The presence of HDV antibodies indicates exposure to HDV, but does not distinguish acute or chronic HDV infection. Typically the disappearance of HDV antibodies is indicative of resolution of infection. The assay method is a competitive ELISA utilizing recombinant HDV antigen.
ProcedureThe HDV total antibody ELISA is a competitive immunoassay. Anti-HDV antibodies, if present, compete with HRP-conjugated polyclonal anti-HDV antibodies for recombinant HDV antigen adsorbed to the microtiter plate. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Eurofins Viracor. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
