Clinical Utility

Tests for presence of sickling hemoglobins in human blood or sickle cell control material.

Procedure

The test principle is hemagglutination. Screening performed using the Streck SICKLEDEX Solubility kit. Test is performed at Eurofins DPT 111222 S. Revere Parkway, Centennial, CO 80112. See package insert for more information.

Turnaround Time

48 hours from receipt of specimen.

Qualitative, Positive or Negative

  • Collect whole blood in an plasma, ACD or EDTA lavender top tube. Do not freeze.
  • If shipped ambient must be received within 10 days of collection, or 45 days when refrigerated.
Shipping

All specimens must be labeled with patient's name and collection date. A Eurofins Viracor/Eurofins DPT Pre-Transplant test requisition form must accompany each specimen. Multiple tests can be run on one specimen. Ship specimens FedEx Priority Overnight® to: Eurofins DPT, 6933 S. Revere Parkway, Centennial, CO 80112.

Causes for Rejection

Whole blood frozen, specimens beyond their acceptable length of time from collection as listed in the specimen handling, or specimen types other than those listed.
