Anti-thyroglobulin antibodies have been implicated in thyroid autoimmune disease. Approximately 10% of healthy individuals have thyroglobulin autoantibodies at low levels. In many cases of Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies are elevated.

Procedure

The anti-thyroglobulin assay is performed on the Immulite 2000 analyzer system using highly purified thyroglobulin coated beads. The assay is calibrated against WHO 1st IRP 65/93. This test has been cleared or approved for diagnostic use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

  • Collect 1-2 mL whole blood in red top tube.
  • Centrifuge and transfer 0.5 mL serum into a transfer tube.
  • Ship at ambient or frozen temperature Monday through Friday.
  • Specimens are stable for 1 week ambient, 1 week at 2-8 C, 6 months frozen at -20 C or below
