Bacteroides spp. is a gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria species found in the intestinal tract of humans and spread primarily through human and animal bites, or develops in diabetic foot and Decubitus ulcers. Bacteroides is responsible for the majority of localized abscesses within the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and skin and soft tissues. These wound colonizers are resistant to penicillins, mostly through the production of beta-lactamase.
