Enterovirus is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus and includes twelve species. The enteroviruses are well-known etiologic agents of viral meningitis, viral encephalitis, myocarditis, and respiratory tract disease as well as a wide variety of other clinical conditions.

Rhinovirus (RV) is the most common, global viral infectious agent to infect humans and is the predominant cause of the common cold. It is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genome. Rhinovirus is extremely contagious and can live outside human contact for up to three hours. For infants under three months of age and the immunocompromised, symptoms can be more severe and may lead to illnesses ranging from pneumonia to bronchiolitis.
