Dr. Zoe Weiss, MD

Transplant ID Physician
Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Tufts University School of Medicine

Dr. Zoe Freeman Weiss is an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Tufts Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She is also an Assistant Professor and attending physician in the department of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and serves as the Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. Dr. Weiss is also a valued member of the Eurofins Viracor Laboratory Advisory Board, bringing her extensive expertise in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases to guide the strategic direction of the laboratory.

Dr. Weiss received her medical degree from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, followed by an internal medicine residency at the same institution. She completed her infectious disease fellowship, with a focus on transplant infectious diseases, and a medical microbiology fellowship (ABPath certified) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA. Her clinical interests focus on the care of transplant and other immunocompromised patients. She attends primarily on the transplant infectious diseases consultation services. She also provides clinical consultation within the microbiology laboratory and assists in the implementation and validation of new diagnostic tests. Her scholarly interests include the diagnosis of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients and the clinical applications of novel rapid diagnostic testing, such as Next-Generation-Sequencing and mass spectrometry.

Dr. Weiss was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (ΑΩΑ), serves as a medical advisor to Anvil Diagnostics, and is a reviewer for the CLSI’s Antifungal subcommittee. In her current role, she is involved in laboratory administration/medical oversight, clinical research, and medical education. Her deep understanding of diagnostic testing and patient care will greatly benefit the Eurofins Viracor Laboratory Advisory Board's efforts to advance innovative diagnostic solutions.

Dr. Shaun Yang PhD, D(ABMM), MLS(ASCP)

Associate Clinical Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Associate Medical Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory
Director, Molecular Microbiology and Pathogen Genomics (MMPG) Laboratory
UCLA School of Medicine

Dr. Shaun Yang joins the Eurofins Viracor Laboratory Advisory Board as a distinguished molecular biologist and clinical microbiologist. He brings extensive experience in clinical microbiology, clinical virology, molecular diagnostics, microbial genomics, genomic epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and transplant infectious disease diagnostics. He’s also a pioneer and thought leader in the clinical applications of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in infectious diseases.

Dr. Yang has developed and implemented numerous cutting-edge molecular microbiological tests and has authored or co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed papers and three book chapters. He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine and serves as the Associate Medical Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.
